I’m loving my Pretty Chic Theme with Genesis framework that I purchased from Studiopress. I’m new to blogging and I had very limited exposure to what the administrative side of a blog looks like. I guess I’m pretty lucky because I had edited a blog post using WordPress at work, so it wasn’t completely foreign, but that was the extent of my blogging experience. I don’t know about you, but this blogging gig is a lot harder than I thought! Anyway….
After weeks of messing around with a free theme, and wasting a ton of time, I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Pretty Chic Theme from Studiopress. I didn’t pay to have anyone help me install the theme but instead opted to do it myself using their included email support. It was a little frustrating at first because there is no phone support included for free. I knew I could get things done faster that way but my budget for creating my first blog was small.
So off I went with my new friend, Susan R., the person I’ve been bugging non-stop to get my blog up and running. I can’t help but wonder if Susan is really the person responding every time, but I’d like to think she is. Susan has patiently helped me with every step. It took me a few days to get everything working but that’s because I also work a full-time job and have a house full of teenagers! If you’ve never set up a website before, don’t buy the theme from someone that doesn’t offer full support. Susan helped me set up my newsletter sign up and even made suggestions for free plugins that would help me achieve my objectives. Poke around my pages and take a look at the nice sidebars. You can customize them and rearrange the order of the different widgets so if you want an ad on top, you can drag them around. Or maybe you want your newsletter sign-up front and center so you can put that on top instead. I’m testing out some different advertising methods to see what is going to work for me and my blog. I’ll be writing another post soon so be sure to sign up for my newsletter!
I’m still learning something new every day and I wouldn’t call my blog “perfect”, but I’m happy for now and ready to get to work! If you’re reading this right now, you’re reading my 4th blog post! I’m starting to get the hang of it and I hope you’ll subscribe to my newsletter and follow me along on my journey. If you have any tips that you’d like to point out, please do. I’ll take all the help I can get! I clearly need help with image resizing. Any tips?
